Birds of Paradise

Stitching is a peaceful activity that is practiced worldwide. With our Stitching for Peace project we are once again setting an example against the many wars and oppressions in this world. I invite you to join us.

For the sixth time I do now participate with my workshop in a the project Stitching for Peace organised by the Swiss group of Mrs. Ingrid Eggimann-Jonsson The motif for XNUMX is a Bird of Paradise.

Depending on your mood, a variant of the four templates can be chosen, combined or alienated. Free interpretations of the topic are also welcome.

An exhibition of your Birds of Paradise will take place between November 29.11th, 2020 and January 31.01.2021st, XNUMX in my studio. Whether there will again be a joint exhibition in my studio with the Swiss embroiderers depends on how the situation is developing because of Corona and how it can be handed over at the border.

Afterwards, the exhibits will go on tour again with your permission and I will endeavor to find more exhibition locations.

The size of the fabric: a maximum of 30x40cm with a finished border. You determine the material and stitching technique. The finished work should have a suspension so that it can be easily hung (framing is not necessary) The template can be enlarged with the copier.

Deadline: 14.11.2020 (in person or by mail)

I greet you warmly and look forward to active participation in and outside of my studio.

Stay healthy and, above all, be alert!

Stitching for Peace 2020

A World Peace Day was held in Sweden for the first time in 2011. The idea was that embroidery
should lead to free, creative, global thoughts and ideas. They declared July 30th *
a day of creation for peace, freedom and equality and published a manifesto:
Manifesto
Textiles reflect our world. You can watch the spirit of our time in an embroidery.
Embroidery and textiles can also indicate social injustices between countries
With the help of embroidery we can change the point of view and show the need for ourselves
to get involved, especially in the important role that textiles play in world trade and world peace.
Textiles are power, let us incite many people through embroidery to join in this creative
activities that lead to a better understanding between countries and people.
Embroidery is a peaceful and calming occupation. It can traditionally be shared
Stitched from memory or worked according to sample books or freely created new.
We stitch for joy, for beauty, decoration and to create identity.
Stitches can be decorative, beautiful, comforting, reporting, healing, narrative, lustful,
inflammatory, flattering, perfect ...
People embroider out of lust, as a leisure activity, professionally, out of sheer necessity, as
a liberating act. You embroider in groups or in meditative loneliness.
We want to draw attention to embroidery as a free act that leads to free, creative
thoughts and ideas. We from the northern, privileged part of the world want our
embroidery threads to link with stitches made by our stitching sisters and brothers around the world
World are embroidered.
We want to be part of a joyful and creative peace movement.
The initiative comes from the Skåne Syd local group of the Embroidery Academy. The first world peace day
took place on July 30, 2011 in Vismarlöv. The importance of embroidery and the information about the
World embroidery day should spread on wings all over the world!
Make July 30th * a creative day for peace, freedom and equality.
